Six Sentence Stories

This week's cue word is Border.

He lived in a little flint cottage in the hills and as a kid, I spent many a happy hour with my shepherd friend Fred, his woolly flock and his faithful sheepdog, a Border Collie he simply called BC.

Fred died when I was in my late teens and at his funeral BC sat atop his master's coffin as it was carried into the chapel then down to the graveyard, refusing to jump off!

As there was no one to take care of BC I persuaded my parents to let me, but he was never the same and spent most days stretched out on the floor, his head on his paws.

We made regular trips to the grave and whilst I tidied and left fresh flowers, BC would just stand there, head bowed and occasionally whimper. But last time we visited he lay down on the gravel and closed his weary eyes, never to open them again.

Once again they are side by side, BC and his master.
