A-Z Challenge Day 9

Posted Monday April 11

Today, the I’s have it!
Insouciance adj. The quality of being carefree; a lack of concern.
Impavid adj. Fearless, undaunted
Inficete adj. Humourless, unfunny, deadly serious
Ichthyoasanthotoxism n. poisoning from the sting or bite of a fish

I was running, jumping skipping. Flowers to my left, a babbling brook to my right. I saw a frog, I’m certain it smiled. A blackbird sang me a merry tune whilst the smiling sun played hide and seek amid fluffy white clouds. I chased a butterfly; I twitched my nose at a rabbit. I blew a kiss to a fairy (only joking, actually I waved). I was in blissful insouciance.

I ventured upon a chasm. My impavid nature dared me to leap across. Arms and legs stretched I took off like an eagle. Unfortunately, I misjudged it. Okay, so it wasn't a real chasm, it was a fox's hole and my right foot shot down it causing a startled fox to pop out of another hole a few yards away. Despite being in agony I managed to muster a smile in its direction, but the inficete creature just frowned at me.

I limped to the pub to drown my sorrows. It could have been worse. Just supposed I'd fallen in the brook and suffered ichthyoasanthotoxism? I was on my fifth pint (and third whisky) when the pompous looking man in the painting over the fireplace stuck his tongue out at me. Some people are so rude.

  2. Fifth pint and third whiskey and he could still see someone sticking out their tongue at him? I think I would have passed out before then!

  8. That was fun. Although, sounds like this person needs to be cut off if paintings are making faces.

  12. Too cute! I really enjoyed the imagery. Do you take requests for words? I adore the word mellifluous, which seems to really suit it's meaning. ~grin~ I look forward to reading tomorrow!

  17. Great flash fiction :-) He was already delusional long before the alcohol - didn't he think a foxhole was a chasm?
