A chance encounter

This weeks prompt on Sunday Scribblings is 'chance encounter'
.

I don’t know whether to talk about my chance encounter or not. You see, the thing is, I’ve talked about on at least two previous occasions here on my blog. But then again, it was a pretty good chance encounter as chance encounters go. Although, I’ve just looked back, and my previous posts didn’t attract many comments at the time.

Perhaps no one saw it. Certainly, none of our present gang of scribblers left any blogitudes. Could be of course, that my chance encounter didn’t impress anyone. Maybe my readers shrugged their shoulders and thought ‘so what’. But like I said, just maybe no one saw it. Anyway, I’m still proud of it, so I see no reason why I shouldn’t milk it for all it’s worth.

It happened when I was in Buckingham Palace. I know what you are thinking – he met the Queen! Well, actually, yes – I did see the Queen, but that wasn’t a chance encounter because it was planned. And in any case, my encounter took place in the gentlemen’s toilet, and I was hardly likely to bump into the Queen in there, was I! Hey, I know what you are thinking, particularly if you are British – you think I met George Michael in there! Wrong!

Gentlemen’s toilets are strange places. They have a sort of hushed reverence about them. They are like porcelain temples. Places were for a couple of minutes a man can stand and contemplate. Fellow visitors offer no more than a nod of the head to acknowledge the others presence. They just stand in a row staring at a ceramic tile a few inches away from their noses, being careful not to glance downward to the right or left for fear of giving the wrong signal.

Anyway, here’s a clue. I came out and I said to my wife (I was married then) ‘Baby I’m Amazed’. Well, I was! Actually it would be more of a clue had I come out and said ’Maybe I’m Amazed’, but I didn’t. That wouldn’t have made sense.

I can’t put it off any longer. Are you ready for this? I shook ...things... with Paul McCartney! I didn’t shake his thing of course but you know what I mean! He was standing right next to me and we finished at exactly the same time! We really did! How about that! Impressive eh?

I like to think that when Sir Paul (he was knighted that day) is leaning on the bar having a beer with his mates, he talks about his chance encounter with that guy from Keith’s Ramblings, in the gentlemen’s toilet, in Buckingham Palace.

  2. This is delicious humor! I'm sure that the reason no one commented on it the first time around was because they didn't have Sunday Scribblings to direct them to your blog. You have a talent for the droll voice in which a story such as this should be told.

  5. Shake it baby shake it, shake if you can!!! Sorry the first thing that came into my head...a song or something!! Impressive post...the writing.. Although I am a Beatles fan , I loved Lennon and still do and Harrison, I wasn't a huge Paul fan. All you did was make him sound just as human as you .....if you know what I mean! Yes, he should be writing about that great blogger Keith who always has something wonderful to share!! Fun post my dear!!

  7. I certainly did miss this the first time around, and yes, I am absolutely convinced that somewhere out there Sir Paul is still reminiscing about his chance encounter with Keith in the loo, and your serendipitously well-timed pee.

  8. Well Keith, I just can't understand why the bloggy peeps didn't comment on you previous posts. I personally think that your "Chance Encounter" is a story well worth sharing with everyone and ove and over again for that fact! Oh, what I would give, to have been able to take your place (not that i'd be able to shake it or even twist and shout it) with him ;-)
Me dear old mum use to hang out with Paul and the boys, as well as a few others (before they all became famous) back in the "Old Pool" and I never get tired of hearing all her tales.

  16. That is funny Keith. If you were like George Michael you could have sung "All you need is love" together. What were you doing at the palace?

  20. That was before I "met" you. You'd better believe I would have commented if I'd read about you in the privy with Paul!

  21. Paul McCartney, eh?
I'm so glad I'm not famous!
Actually, I'd probably be more interested in meeting some of my fellow bloggers than him, but...if I did meet him, I'd probably tell about it. What is is about our insatiable curiosity for stars?

  22. Wow, Keith, you’ve really snazzed up your place since I last visited. Sooo nice, although I miss your music :-) A good thing did come of it, though. I was inspired to download Ingrooves Symphony Orchestra’s “A Beginner’s Guide To Classical (complete) Faure” which I still enjoy almost daily. Also enjoyable was this McCartney fiesta, all the way from the gentlemen’s toilet truths to the one-and-only-Linda video… Too bad Paul didn’t get a reprise :-(
