Post 1570. Monday July 24

Wordless Wednesday

Jane Austen died on July 18, 1817 aged just 41. She was buried in Winchester Cathedral 200 years ago today. I took these photos yesterday.

An original hand written draft

First edition of Persuasion which was published a year after her death

Not the prettiest house so I just stuck to the plaque!

  1. Hi Keith - well done and am glad to see these ... I went to a talk on her recently ... and may note out the books mentioned in a post at some stage ... there's been a lot about her. I hadn't seen the little sculpture of her before - looks exquisite ... cheers Hilary

  2. What beautiful penmanship in that draft! It is truly a lost art. Many schools here no longer teach cursive.

    1. It is beautiful. The engraved script mentions nothing about her writing, it's just about her, the person.

  6. She was the same age that I am when she passed away. What beautiful handwriting she had! I bet we won't see script written like that in the future.
