Post 1500. Saturday April 8

A-Z Challenge 2017

This is the village green. What do you think? Nice isn’t it. Everybody comes here. Over there you can see the lake with swans and ducks paddling around. That’s little Polly with the net and jam jar. She’s hoping to catch tadpoles. And young Robert's watching her. He’s hoping to catch her eye! Many a romance has blossomed here amid the blooms - and behind the green-keepers shed so I’m told, but I wouldn’t know about that of course!

There’s the kid’s play area and that little blue hut is where they sell ice creams and drinks in the summer.

This is the bowling green. Soon there will be teams of elderly gentlemen dressed in white rolling their balls on the velvety grass. Then they'll retire for a cup of tea and a slice of Glorious Gloria's famous victoria sponge. The white building over there is the cricket pavilion. We are very proud of our team. This could just be the year we actually win a match!

Oh no,! That's Gregory chasing his spluttering lawn mower! It looks like it’s escaped again. Haha!

Look at this pretty little cherry tree covered in pink blossom. There’s a small plaque beneath it, do you see? It says ‘In memory of Florence Adams, wife of Arthur. 1923-2010’.

She actually wanted a seat in her memory, but Arthur misheard her.

Monday I'll be taking you to the Village Hall

  3. With a few changes in detail, this sounds like a typical small town America. Baseball instead of cricket.

  11. Congrats on 1500 posts. Quite a milestone. I'm a cricket tragic so I'm hoping there'll be some more stories from the local team. Arthur probably played for them back in the day, didn't he?

  13. Hi Keith - you're entrancing all of us - lovely to read. I was in Bexhill on Thursday at the Museum - what a great little place it is ... I went for the Triang trains, but will be back to spend the day perusing their exhibition spaces. The common and pond as part of the Museum complex - I know much older! I didn't know were there - so must when I come over I can wander around there too ... Amble Village life is a dose of please let it be here! A Cherry Tree from Arthur isn't too terrible - one can sit under the swaying boughs ... cheers Hilary
