Post 1499. Friday April 7
A-Z Challenge 2017
If someone says they are going fishin’, they actually mean they are off to the pub! It started when Baker Ben's wife barred him from the Fish Inn for a month because he was drinking too much. So, he’d gather up his rod and tackle, say he was going fishin’ and make his way here!
The Fish Inn dates back to 1640 and was used by smugglers. They dug a tunnel from the cellar to Bustleton. Every Halloween we have a candlelit party down there. It's home to a ghost, Jeremiah who's very nice but a bit vague . One year Sid ‘Potty’ Potter dressed as a ghost for the party. He was so realistic, Jerimiah ran off in fright!
They have some great craft beers here. Amber Ale; golden and malty. Leaping Frog; dark and bitter. Flighty Flora; blond and seductive. No, that's not a beer, that's her over there! Hi Flora.
This garden is Dapper Dan’s pride and joy. Let’s grab a bench. Oh look, here comes Arthur. Hello, Arthur, you’ve met my new friends I believe.
I said, you’ve met my new friends’
I’ll pop inside and gets some drinks. What would you like Arthur? He heard that all right!
Tomorrow I'm hoping for a sunny day because we are off to the Village Green
To read a brief description of Amble Bay and see a scribbled map just click HERE
.
Here we have a bar called The Library, so college students can say they are at the library, and once called The Office so husbands can call home and say they are staying late at the office. Guess some things stay the same the world around!
ReplyDeleteThat's brilliant! One world indeed.
DeleteKeith, visited today and went back to A and read forward again ..will be back to read more stories out of Amble Bay.. sounds like a cool place.. :)
ReplyDeleteWelcome to our village. I hope you enjoy your visit!

Very kind of you Anjali, thank you
DeleteShame about Flighty Flora...sounded like a good drop, but as I'm spoken for I'll leave her alone. I don't fish so my partner wouldn't buy that one anyway.
ReplyDeleteHaha! She is a a bit tasty and I'm not spoken for!
DeleteA ghost scared by a Halloween ghost dressup?? That was funny ha ha
ReplyDeletejaishwrites - F for??? (flashfiction)
He is quite a nervous ghost! Cheers Jaish
DeleteHi Keith - loving these snippets of Amble Bay life ... I thought we'd have Fish at the Fish Inn as it's Friday - now I'm having to readjust my tummy's rumbling! Pity about Jeremiah .... he sounds fun to have around ... We found a pub in Birmingham called 'The Lost and Found' it was in a bank ... don't think they robbed the bank to create the pub/restaurant ...
ReplyDeletePeople with hearing aids can hear fine - when they want something ... cheers Hilary

Hi Hilary. Thanks for you observations and snippets!
DeleteThe Flora joke made me laugh. And I love how you revisit folks. You're so creative. Thanks for sharing this fun series.
ReplyDeleteThank you Darla. You really do say the nicest things!
DeleteI'll bet Arthur would hear anything Flighty Flora said too. These posts are the daily dose of smile :)

I believe it's called selective hearing! Thanks for smiling along with me!
DeleteI enjoyed the light fun tone of your post. I also like the font and style you used, it all works together so well. I think the way you have the alphabet across the bottom highlighting the progression of posted letters is brilliant and I might incorporate your idea on my own site. Anyway, lovely post. Thank you for sharing.

DeleteThe Fish Inn sounds like a fascinating place. Let's all go fishing! ☺
ReplyDeleteLets all go for a beer! Cheers Miss D!
DeleteIt'll take a couple of beers, but I want to check out that tunnel for ghosts and hidden treasures!
ReplyDeleteAre you sure? Ok, come on!
DeleteArthur is becoming quite the star of Amble Bay. I like the idea of telling the wife I'm off fishing every Friday evening!
ReplyDeleteDon't encourage Arthur Iain! I'm off for a swft mackeral. Join me?
DeleteAnother great post! Such a way with words... "It's home to a ghost, Jeremiah who's very nice but a bit vague." Made me smile!
ReplyDeleteHaha! That's the way ghost are! Thanks Trudy.
DeleteI like the idea of a timid ghost hanging out in the tunnel. All ghosts are a bit vague if you think about it - visually, at least. I loved the way you put that!
ReplyDeletePrecisely what was in my mind Nick. Cheers.
DeleteThe Fish Inn - now that's a great name for a place!
