The Sunday Whirl

It's Sunday so we get a well-deserved rest over at The A-Z Challenge 2016. Our numbers have reduced to around 1700 now, but I'm hanging on in there. My daily hit rate has more than quadrupled, so I'd like to offer a great big thank you to everybody who  follows me day by day. It's what  keeps me going!

Today's given words at The Sunday Whirl are - forget, stretch, rest, left, hole, lost, sight, first, shell, feathers, rattle and old.

Forget it. I'm fed up. I'm positively rattled. Bend your knees, address the ball, hit to the left, mind the bunker on the right.  'Fore' they keep shouting, I didn't even manage a one! I've lost a  bucket load of balls, and they are bloody expensive. What with that and the entry fee, I shelled out a small fortune. No, I've had enough. I'm going to stretch the old legs. then have a well-earned rest in the 'nineteenth hole'. Nineteenth hole! I ask you! It's just a friggin' bar for goodness sake and an expensive one at that. Whatever next?

Okay, my first hit was a disaster. But the stupid pigeon should have known better than to fly in front of me when I'm having  my first ever swing of the bat, or club, or stick-thing whatever it's called. Mind you, the scattering of feathers down the fairway did make for  quite a pretty sight! No, it's dominoes and solitaire for me for now on. Proper sport.

Your turn...

  1. Olympic dominoes at the nineteenth hole would always get my vote - and Rosey's maybe

  2. I did play golf a few years back but always remembered a quote from Mark Twain "Golf is a good walk spoiled".

  3. Great use of all those words! Golf has always seemed much too complicated to me, such beautiful golf courses and everyone focused on their little balls... hehehe! :-)

  5. I like the way you are able to use 'voice'----the way you can write a character so that the reader 'hears' the words as they would be spoken. It's very difficult to do and you do it so well with your word choices and the small nuances of language that you employ.

    1. Thanks so much CC. I actually find it the easiest way to write. Just write what you think the way you think it. To me it's far less complicated than trying to use colourful language and clever sentence construction.

  6. A quote I heard from somewhere says that golf is a waste of a good walk... I've never tried it, but I just know I won't be any good. Your words will probably describe my first game (is it game?) to a tee...
