Friday Fictioneers

Posted Wednesday February 10

This week's picture prompt comes courtesy of The Reclining Gentleman and our host Rochelle.

Now listen to me daffodil, it’s time you woke up your mates. I know it’s cold, but you're putting up with it, so why aren't they? We all like a lie in, but this is ridiculous. Last February you were all on parade. This year most of you are still tucked up bed.
Being daffodils gives you no privileges. Just look at the tulips. They are making an effort.
This is your final warning. If your colleagues don’t get up and open their petals right now you will all find yourself joining the weeds on the compost heap.
I’m counting. One.....two.......three........

Would that flowers bloomed on demand.

  2. And when they do finally get up, stubborn little beggars refuse to unfurl their petals. Off with their heads! Great take on the prompt.

  3. A charming and funny story! I like how your character threatens that poor daffodil, when all it did was try and please you by blooming.him

  9. What a cruel gardener. No wonder the poor daffodils stay underground. This was fun.

  10. That put a smile on my face, mainly because I have conversations like that with my plants from time to time.

  11. i like the humor in this, it sounds like an old times story for kids, when everything was terrifying and cruel.

  15. Cute and humorous piece, Keith. With that tone of voice, it might just work. I've heard you can talk to flowers. Well done. :D --- Suzanne

  16. February?!? I wish tulips and daffodils were blooming by February here. We feel blessed if we see them by mid april and we don;t start speaking to the late comers until June.

  18. Awesome! Freakishly warm weather earlier this winter caused my crocuses to pop up way early. I'm hoping they still manage to bloom and don't all need replaced for future spring seasons. Maybe I should go talk to them.
