The Island

It's Day 9 of the  Blogging From A to Z April (2015) Challenge

I am on an island, a treasure island. But there's no need here for tattered maps and rusty trunks filled with fancy trinkets.

For treasure awaits me around every corner. I see it ancient rocks, in trees bowed low with olives. I feel treasure beneath my feet as I stroll along its golden shores. I find it in the wings of butterflies, petals of flowers, glistening waves and shimmering sunsets.

For here is true treasure, nature's treasure. And it's my treasure for as long as I stay and mine again when I  once again return.

For return I shall to my very own  treasure island.

This piece was inspired by the many trips I've made to the little island of Samos which has remained unspoiled by commercialism, a fate suffered by most of the other Greek islands.Click tab to come with me!

  1. I was already craving the beach and the warmth of the sun. This post may have pushed me over the edge! Wonderfully written.

    1. I can see the beach from my window now, but I'd rather be on my island!

  3. I've not been to Samos, but I have been to other Greek islands (commercialized but still beautiful for a landlocked person like myself). Nothing is more beautiful than the creation itself.

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  8. Lovely! I hope it remains unspoiled. Growing up in the Caribbean I know how things can be commercialized...

  11. Ah Greece. Loved Mykonos but was there a very long time ago, perhaps it has changed. My son got married while on a sailboat cruise around the Greek islands, so romantic. The sun was setting on the Adriatic Sea, they said their vows on a hilltop with goats nearby, their bells tinkling, someone rang the bells of the small Greek church, and then they went down the hill where a banquet from the local tavern awaited. Ouzo toasts all around.

    1. That sounds absolutely idyllic. You've prompted me to have an ouzo right now. Yamas!
