Listen

Now listen to me. I’ve been very patient, but I really think it’s about time you stirred yourselves. I know its cold, but if I can put up with it, so can you.
We all like a lie in from time to time but this is ridiculous. This time last year you and your mates were up and alert despite the late spring. This year you are still tucked up in your beds.
If the daffodils can raise themselves so can you. I know they were a bit slow at surfacing this year, but now they are all on parade and beginning to wonder where you have got to.
Being a tulip  doesn't give you any privileges you know. I just looked in on the hyacinths and although they were understandably reluctant to raise their heads above the soil they have at least made an effort.
Are you listening to me? This is your final warning. If you don’t get up and open your petals right now you will find yourself joining the weeds and clippings on the compost heap.
I’m counting. One.....two.......three........four...........

Back to the grim realities of life tomorrow with a very short vignette called  The mêlée

I also have a blog on which I write poems and stories for children. It's called Once upon a Time and it's right HERE!

  5. Were you standing behind me as I looked at the green leaves poking through my flowerbeds yesterday? I live outside of Boston and with the winter we had, everything is blooming a bit late. I'm coaxing my flowers to bloom every day...this made me laugh this morning. Thank you!

  6. Spring is late here as well. All we have are a few crocus (ses? si?) Anyway, I've given up on the tulips. The deer around these parts slurp them down way before they have a chance to bloom. Since humans have taken the deers' woods to build houses, I try not hold this against them. Feeding them a tasty morsel is the least I can do.

    1. You got me thinking so I Goggled it! The plural of crocus is either croci or crocuses! And your part of the year sounds lovely.

  7. My gardens are finally showing a riot of color, for which I'm thrilled. I hedged my bets, planting some cold tolerant pansies before the bulbs really took off. Happy gardening! Oh, and my Darla M. Sands blog is number 1281 on the A to Z list today.

  9. Haha, this was so fun. Open up or you'll lie with the weeds (as opposed to swimming with the fishes).

Good luck with the A to Z Challenge!

  12. I like people who talk to plants! :D
I don't think plants pay much attention to those "ultimatums" though! I'm sure those tulips will take their own sweet time. :)

  13. I must talk to my plants in the balcony, too. I must give them a motivational talk so that they get the zeal to live and not die on me! :P
