MY SPECIAL PLACE

I sense silence. Yet all around I hear the sounds of nature. The pebbles crackle and grate under my feet, the rhythmic whoosh of the waves fills my ears and the shrieking of swooping gulls gives a voice to the deserted shore line.

Here I am alone. Yet my companion, this hidden secret beach, is here to wrap me in splendid seclusion. I am alone but I share my very being with the raw edge of nature.

Here I hear my own voice, though silent. Here my thoughts surround me. Here I am at one with myself yet enveloped by a greater force, one which allows me the freedom I crave whilst lifting me out of myself and cradling me in glorious isolation.

The beach is ever changing. Some days filled with wrath, others tranquil and calm. Some days the sea is an enigmatic aqua, another as grey as granite. I look toward the horizon and see my life uncharted. What lies beyond? Who can tell?

But here I can be myself. Unquestioned, unchallenged. Here I can think, consider, compose.

  1. The beach is ever changing in a subtle way....and sometimes it is due to our own perceptions, influenced by the sunshine in our own lives...or the grey. And, indeed though we know something is beyond we are not sure quite what.

  3. You have described the peacefulness and freedom to be what we are that the beach provides in a most effective manner.

What lies beyond? Who can tell?

There is so much at stake going towards one's future! Can't really be sure and that makes it more interesting! Great lines Keith!

  5. I share you love of the sea and all its different faces. It was wild and stormy here today and all the beaches were closed. Experienced surfers disregard the signs and still ride the giant waves ... it is amazing to watch. Everyone gazes at the horizon thinking the same thing. Enjoyed your poem.

  9. A lovely description of the comfort and peace of such a place where one can be oneself. I tried to listen to the reading but it did not go for me--probably my tentative Internet connection here. I will keep trying.
