Watch out - here comes a black pudding!

During the War of the Roses, the good folk of Lancashire and Yorkshire started throwing black puddings at each other at Stubbings Bridge. This first recorded event using blood sausages as missiles, eventually led to one of today’s biggest international sporting events - The Annual Black Pudding Throwing World Championships.

In preparation the throwers will have been training for months. They will have been selecting and maturing the finest examples of these fine sausages, which will have been ‘swaddled’ in stretched ladies tights to avoid them disintegrating on landing. The targets - Yorkshire puddings, will have been baked to a regulation size and weight.

This weekend the streets of Ramsbottom will be alive with contestants, enthusiasts and the worlds paparazzi as the 145th Championship takes place.

All eyes will gaze skyward to the tops of the poles on which the ‘yorkies will be balanced. The excitement will build to a frenzy as the first black pudding is flung into the air, and the applause deafening as the targets are dislodged and scattered in all directions.

The current World Champion is Tony Burk, and all bets are on him retaining the silver cup. The world is watching you Tony!

  2. I was bored with the Blogger templates so I Googled 'Blog Templates' and there are loads of outside sources to choose from. Unfortunately you have to lose all your sidebar lists and things, and start again. also I can't increase the size of the text and I think it's a bit small!
