A-Z Challenge 2017
Tales of everyday life in the coastal village of Amble Bay
Well, here we are at Amble Bay beach. It’s not the prettiest beach I admit, but at least there’s no risk of being hit on the head by a coconut! Those wonky old beach huts could look quite attractive with a bit of work, couldn’t they? No? Maybe not!
I see you have your bucket and spade. It’s pebbly here now but there’ll be some soggy sand when the tide goes out.
What are you looking at? Oh her! I should have warned you. That bit along there's reserved for folk of a naturist persuasion. That’s Naked Nora practising her yoga. No, not a pretty sight, but not as alarming as Arthur in his orange mankini! He didn’t realise it was a joke when we gave it to him. He thinks it’s very fetching and regularly strolls along here wearing it in the summer.
This old fishing boat has been in the Whiting family for generations. It’s got more patches than my gran’s patchwork quilt! But Willy goes out in it most days and usually comes back with a few wriggling fish. They sell it in the fish shop over there by the car park. I prodded a lobster in there once. Wretched thing snapped hold of my finger. I got my own back though - I ate it!
Fancy an ice cream?
Tomorrow I’ll be taking you to The Church for a chuckle or two!

I quite like pebbly beaches. More...how shall I put it? textured? Though perhaps not with a Nora naturist thrown in!
ReplyDeleteNilanjana.
Madly-in-Verse
Textured! That's the poet in you coming out! I like it. Thanks for being the first on the beach.
DeleteNaked Nora doing her yoga sounds interesting haha! I would definitely think ice cream is in order after that!
ReplyDeleteDebbie
Interesting is one word for it!
DeleteOh! I might run from this beach...
ReplyDeleteBut I'll take the ice-cream :D
Anna
Don't worry Anna, it's only a small section at one end!
DeleteA mankini? LOL Never heard that one before! Interesting beach. :D

Yopu certainly wouldn't want to see one! Thanks Calen~

ReplyDeleteOn my Journey To Courageous Living today is about my fear of Being Seen. Come, check out!
Best look the other way - I do! Thanks Miss Andi
DeleteHi Keith ... did 'you' eat the lobster and finger and all?! Naked Nora a worry, but Arthur in his orange mankini is a bit much! Great visit to the beach ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteNo, I licked my fingers though! Not too many mankinis on Eastbourne beach I trust.
DeleteThat’s Naked Nora practising her yoga.
ReplyDeleteNo, not a pretty sight, but not as
alarming as Arthur in his orange mankini!
Love the humor again Keith. You have a special knack for it!
Hank
That's very kind of you Hank, and much appreciated.
DeleteThe more i see him, the more i like him - your old Arthur . He is making me more optimistic about old age. :) Enjoying the vivid details and fluidity in your stories.
ReplyDeleteHe's a good advert for old age!I've got heaps mote to tell you about him over the next few weeks.Thank you.
DeleteThat coconut falling from the tree happened to me in Miami Beach. I actually stuffed it in my luggage and brought it home with me.

You lived to tell the tale then! Cheers Denise
DeleteI would love an ice, but I'll have to eat it away from the beach in case I spy Naked Nora, or Arthur in a mankini; either of which sights might cause a significant lessening of my enjoyment of said confection.
ReplyDeleteI share your sentiments kind sir!
DeleteI like the sound of that beach though I'll stay away from Naked Nora! Oh and I'll take that ice cream too.
ReplyDeleteWise on both counts! Thanks Shweta
DeleteI live at Bournemouth on The South Coast quite near the beach, this reminded me of home.
ReplyDeleteGreat post Keith.
Yvonne.
I actally live in Bexhill on Sea a bit further along the same coast as you and I used Normans Bay, a couple of miles away as my model for this beach. It was good enough for Willy the Conk in 1066 so it's good enough for me!
DeleteVery nice imagery. You really drew me into the scene.
ReplyDeleteThanks Darla.
DeleteInteresting read.....an ice cream at the end with Nora and the mankini is perfect

I'm sure the three of you will get on very well! Cheers!
DeleteNaturist beach indeed! My, my, Amble Bay has a few surprises. Goodness knows what the church will bing tomorrow! Loving this Keith.
ReplyDeleteIt's 'Ample' Bay when Big Bertha parks her butt down the nudist end! Glad you are liking it Iain.
DeleteA pebbly beach would certainly be different from what i'm used to, i think i will enjoy reading more about it!
ReplyDeleteAll the beaches along my coast are pebbly! I've heaps more to tell you about Amble Bay - I hope you enjoy your future visits.
DeleteHow fascinating! The thought of Naked Nora really lifted my spirits. Hats off to her. I'm enjoying your posts a lot. Happy A to Z ing.
ReplyDeleteBlame #Lexicon of Leaving
I fear Nora would expect you take more than just your hat off! So glad you like it.
DeleteWhat a quirky spin on a beach! Naked Nora is quite unabashed from what I make her out to be.
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff!
Oh believe me she is! Thanks Anjali
DeleteNow that was an interesting trip to the beach and an ice cream in the end made it perfect! :)
ReplyDeleteWhich flavour did you choose? Thanks so much Shilpa
DeleteI'd run from Naked Nora and any man in a manikin. I wonder what the PC brigade will call it when 'man' is forbidden,
ReplyDeleteBob's B for Burghley House at http://bit.ly/2nQOASk
Haha! Cheers Bob!
DeleteSounds like one of the beaches near me!
ReplyDeleteGood for Naked Nora! I'm glad she feels confident enough to let all her bits hang out! :)

Unfortunately 'hang' out is about rght Jodie! Loved you black dog story by the way.
DeleteSuch a fun beach description! I am excited to read all the adventures!
ReplyDeletePlenty more to come! Thank you Tawnya
DeleteLoved the beach description :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice little beach despite Nora and her mates! Thanks Manisha
DeleteThis is probably a delightful beach. The more pristine, the more crowded. Not to say this one isn't--I simply keyed in on your opening. That, to me, was just right.
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be a bit busy during April, but normally it's very peaceful!
DeleteSounds like a lively place, especially when Arthur's around!
ReplyDeleteArthur is always around Nick! Cheers!
DeleteThe image in my head of Arthur in his mankini is hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI'd keep it in your head if I were you! A 95 year old in a mankini is not exactly a treat for the eyes !
DeleteSounds like a beach that will always provide an interesting tale.

DeleteOh my goodness! Naked Nora doing Yoga on a pebble beach? Ouch! :)
ReplyDeleteShe has a bum like leather lynda so it's not a problem!
DeleteThat ought to teach that lobster a lesson! :)
ReplyDeleteIce cream sounds lovely, thank you! :D
Absolutely right!Thanks Vanessa
DeleteI love rocky beaches! I was thinking I might take a stroll, but at the site of Arthur in his mankini, maybe I'll come back later. ;) Great post.

DeleteOh, dear, naked yoga and manikins'. We are in for a fun time! Hmm...
ReplyDeleteOh yes, it's fun here! Thankd Yolanda
DeleteArthur in a mankini? Now, that's a visual ;-) It's all happening at Amble Bay, I do believe it, I do believe it's true!
ReplyDeleteErm... OK! Thanks so much diedre
DeleteHello, fellow A-to-Zer! I enjoyed this post heartily; also, I like your map. "I prodded a lobster in there once." Excellent!
ReplyDeleteI'm really pleased you like it. Thanks Melanie
DeleteNaked Nora and Arthur in a mankini, I'm not sure that's the kind of beach scenery I'm looking for! :-) I'm more enjoying it here on the Gulf Coast this week, where there is absolutely no one on the beach but Papa Bear and I, since it's a weekday. Crowds appear on the weekend, but we will be gone by then.
ReplyDeleteI've been enjoying your FB photos - I didn't expect to see you here just yet. I'll make sure Arthur and Nora are not there when you come next time!
DeleteNaked Nora is the lesser of two evils? Please, no pictures of Arthur in his mankini!
ReplyDeleteI promise! Cheers John.
