I'm thirsty!

Written for Sunday Scribblings prompt 'lesson'

I’m thirsty. A glass of ice cold water should do the trick.

‘Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities’ Timothy 5:13. Here endeth the first lesson.

OK! Wine beer; beer wine? Decisions decisions.

‘Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise’ Proverbs 24:14. Here endeth the second lesson.

Now I am confused. What to do?

‘Give beer to those who are perishing, wine to those who are in anguish’ Proverbs 31:6.  Here endeth the third lesson.

Make your minds up! Oh well, I’ll play safe. Orange juice it is – or shall I have a glass of milk?

‘A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways’ James 1:8. Here endeth the forth lesson.

So, I’ve gone from thirsty to unhinged in four lessons! Help!

  1. You have been to Sunday School today, Good boy. The quotes were good but one or two verse numbers were out. 9/10. You haven't been at the sacramental wine have you?

  2. Tsk..clever you..if it says wine in the good book then that is what you must imbibe..a cold beer is rather tasy too..maybe that crops up in the New Testament..I can imagine it would come in handy with all that fire and brimstone..Jae

  4. Well, the Bible can appear confusing at times. No wonder there's so many different interpretations. Very clever and very amusing take on the subject.

  5. I think you went to the wrong source for your lessons!

  6. I've often been frustrated by the seeming contradictions in scriptures. Perhaps moderation is the key? Anyway, thank you for this post! You made me laugh!

  7. I'm afraid the Bible is a book from which one can pick out any one of many anomalies and contradictions, then swear by it as truth, simply because it is IN the Bible. I believe that we are made from 'star-stuff', and that the Universe is intelligent; I make my own decisions regarding specifics. Your post is very funny!

  8. Thought provoking post =P Another reasons to add to the list of why I don't let an organised religion rule over my life.

  9. You went to the best source to find the answer. The good book doesn't prohibit the use of these beverages. It suggests that moderation is the key, so bottoms up! Alcohol is like fire, a little will give warmth, but if the user is not careful it can burn out of control.
