Six Sentence Stories




He gently strokes the score, and as his fingers caress the notes, the melody plays in his mind.

Once, these fingers danced upon ivory keys; now they can but barely grip a spoon.

Closing his weary eyes he sees a rapturous audience, hears enthusiastic applause.

Now, ninety years old, those joyous days are nothing more than a distant memory.

He places the score on the piano and returns to his chair.

A tear rolls down his cheek as his grandson plays the piece he’d made his own all those years ago.

  1. Such a beautiful story, Keith . At least, he is lucky enough to hear his grandson play the same score that he had played all those years ago .
    When I read these stories , I realise how I take my life for granted and let the years fly by , just like that.

  4. Hi Keith - I'm sure many a grandparent feels this way ... that wonder of a passion passed on down the generations ... I could see it and feel it - though sadly it's not one of my accomplishments ... but I can dream and relate to yours here. Cheers Hilary

    1. My grandson has a blog and is a really talented writer. I think that's more of a coincidence than gift!

  5. god! I hope we have an option on not feeling regret over our accomplishments as young(er) people. I do look back and think, 'damn! to be able to do (fill in the youth-centric activity)' But I hope I'll have done things with slow, discordant movements that make me feel good. ...like typing!

  6. The aging process is not a kind one for most of us, but we have the blessing of sweet memories, like sheet music, stored in our minds, and we remember when once we played well. I think this was lovely in a sentimental way of his favorite piece being passed on to his grandson to play, and in doing that his love for the music lives on. So very well done, Keith!
