    1. DeeDee, on November 5 1605 Guy Fawkes unsuccessfully attempted to blow up the British Houses of Parliament. We remember it each year in our gardens, on village greens and on the streets of towns with bonfires and fireworks.

  3. ...I know of no reason why Gunpowder Treason
    Should ever be forgot.

    1. ...Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, 'twas his intent
To blow up the King and the Parliament
Three score barrels of powder below
      Poor old England to overthrow
By God's providence he was catched
With a dark lantern and burning match

  4. Looks fantastic! Bexhill-on-Sea? That makes me nostalgic for the great Guy Fawkes celebrations in Lewes I would often attend as a nipper.

    1. Yep, that's where I live! I usually visit Lewes - as you know it's the biggest Guy Fawkes event by far in the UK. This year the trains went on strike, so 'only' 80,000 made it to little Lewes town - along with lots of armed police!

  7. Beautiful fireworks! Of course, being American, I know little about the reason behind this celebration. Off to find out a bit.
