I'm a star!

Sunday Scribblings wants us to brag about ourselves this week! Not a prompt I’m particularly keen on but here goes

I tend to keep myself to myself. I don’t like to boast about my achievements. In fact I am easily embarrassed when anybody mentions them in public. I find praise difficult to take face to face, and I suppose that’s why I enjoy blogging so much – you can accept praise without receiving it directly from the ’praisee’! So I suppose it won’t be too awkward for me to have a little boast or two here!
.
So, how many people can claim to have climbed Everest the difficult way un-accompanied? Not many of you I guess. And I bet not many of you have swum the English Channel and straightaway walked up a French beach and eaten a dish of frog‘s legs! If I asked you to recite a Shakespeare soliloquy backwards could you do it?

Right, let’s make it easier. Hands up all those who can bite their nails? Not finger nails – toe nails. Can any of my fellow bloggers belch the national anthem or produce a rabbit from a hat?
.
Well I have to admit that I’ve never climbed a mountain – walking upstairs requires a half-way rest! As for swimming the channel, err, no. I have eaten frog’s legs on a French beach though, and I love ‘em, but not dripping wet in a swimming hat whilst covered in goose fat! And I have trouble reading our Billy-boy forwards!

Now the toe nails, the musical burping and magic tricks – well, actually I can’t do those either but I would place on a pedestal anyone that can.

So here I am 250 words in, trying to come up with something to brag about. Let’s think there must be something. I can sing in tune, and harmonising comes naturally. I’m reasonably good at pub quizzes and I can recognise most red wine varieties. What else? Did I mention harmonising? Oh, I did. Hey, this one’s good, I used to do a radio show and ..........and.........

Okay I give up. Roll on next week’s prompt!

  3. Yes, this wasn't my favourite prompt neither (believe it or not) so I tried to brag about me being slighly ironic and it wasn't so bad.
I am glad you can't bite your toenails and I don't appreciate people who brag about disgusting things. lol
Perhaps you should brag about your modesty? :)

  4. Very funny! I am so relieved that you can't actually bite your toe nails. I'm also hoping that you didn't even try to and are just assuming this to be true. :)

  7. Someone who knows the difference between one or two wines (and maybe help me pick out a very good pinot noir) and who can knows one or two pub quizzes sounds like much better company than anyone who can chew on their toe nails. Thank goodness, you're far more entertaining than that! Loved this response...

  13. I don't want to know anybody who would even want to chew on their toenails, and I think mountain climbers lack some essential sense of self-preservation. I really do admire your ease with harmonizing - perhaps because I have it too. Even more I admire your gentle witty self deprecating manner without ever bragging about what a wonderful gift for writing you have.

  14. This was fun to read and your (eventual) true qualities were very endearing. Clever take on a very difficult, I think, prompt this week! Thanks for sharing!

  15. What a nice bit of whimsy, well written, endearing, and always pushing away at what is unexpected. Swimming the English Channel? Frog legs? Chewing toe nails? Producing a rabbit from a hat? And then, I almost see your personal warmth, approachable, someone to share a virtual beer with. Very nice!

  19. Harmonizing is a good thing, and difficult for some...

I found enjoyment in this prompt by creating a bit of tongue-in-cheek, as you did.

Enjoyed the light jazz as I visited here. Someone was playing vibes?

  22. Well, if you won't brag on yourself, we'll have to do it. You, my friend, are a master entertainer. You make us laugh and weep with astonishing consistency, on a variety of topics. Not many can do that.

  23. Now that is talent being able to write and bring out thoughts that keep people interested!! You do this so very well. I am bragging on you, does that count

  24. So now that I know what writing a blog should be like, I'll just go sit on the crapper and clip my toenails and do the crossword.
