An angry ocean

My first visit to the Monday Wordle

It’s a blustery cold and miserable day. I walk along a deserted promenade, as an angry ocean taunts and mocks me.

I raise my head and watch as thrashing charcoal waves tumble up the beach and then recede leaving in their wake a foam of nacreous bubbles which too soon disappear beneath the grinding grey pebbles.

I see a golden glow before me and and as I get closer a tired looking retro cafe beckons me. I enter. Now I am wrapped in welcome warmth.

The cacophony behind me is replaced by corny pop music screeching from a tinny transistor on the counter. A bored  assistant looks up from his newspaper.

One lone soul sits in a corner, wrapped in a cheerful wool scarf; a welcome contrast to the gloom beyond the steam covered windows.

As my hands grip a mug of steaming cocoa I slowly sip it whilst my mind wanders to another place, a place imprinted in my mind. To a golden palm fringed beach, the smell of nutmeg on the breeze, a brightly painted wooden snack bar alive with jolly banter and bouncing calypso.

But for now I must make the most of what’s before me. I tell myself it could be worse.
