I have used all but one of the words at this week's The Sunday Whirl.
A match. That’s all it took. As the ribbon of flame snaked across the floor, she took one last look around the room in which her life fell apart. No more to be hit, bruised. Never again to be threatened. No more. The room she once loved would be reduced to a pile of ashes along with her painful memories. A small price to pay.
She gently closed the door, then turned the key on her past.
She gently closed the door, then turned the key on her past.
Atop a hill she stands. A forlorn figure gazing at a column of black smoke as it curls and twists its way upward then disappears within a blanket of leaden cloud. At her feet sits a bulging leather case. She pushes it from the cliff's edge and watches as it tumbles and bounces from rock from rock scattering its contents in every direction before being swept away by the angry ocean below. A smile, the first for many a long day, breaks across her weary features.
She'll be fine now. I'm sure she will.
She'll be fine now. I'm sure she will.
But if that's The Ending ... then she's inside that room with the door locked. Right? Or am I caught in some sort of loop... I think you've done my head in, Keith. ;)
ReplyDeleteThe end of her old life, the beginning of a new. Sorry to mess with your head Marilyn
DeleteAs long as she's not a pile of ash on the floor ... I'm happy. :)
DeleteI think she really got her revenge as he was killed, cut up and disposed of to feed the fishes. By the way I haven't seen Rosey for a bit...just saying.
ReplyDeleteI did leave a pretty hefty clue in the PS Mr Egg! As for my friend Rosey, lucky you! Only kidding Rosey! I'll give her a prod.
DeleteThis is such a captivating read!!
ReplyDeleteOoooo. So much story behind the story here. Love it.
ReplyDeleteI need a chapter two on this, Keith. Tantalizing!
ReplyDeleteDid she burn him in the range and scatter his remains? You've got me wondering but I do enjoy a riddle. :)
ReplyDeleteOoh. Compelling and powerful prose.
