Where am I?

Written for this week's Monday Wordle.

My head hurts. Where am I? I’m cold. Where the hell am I?

What’s going on? Why can’t I see anything? It’s dark, pitch black.

Shhh... What’s that sound?  Water, ripples, running water. Where am I? The last thing I remember was walking over the bridge at the canal. So I’m near the canal.

I can see stars. Look, up there, stars.

I’m surrounded by walls, brick. What’s that I'm sitting in? It’s wet, sticky, like syrup. It stinks.

I must be careful not to get it on my shawl. It’s new. I dressed elegantly tonight, didn't I? Yes, it’s an important do. I’m on my way to an important do. Only I’m not am I?

Where am I? What the hell’s going on? What about my petition? I am presenting a petition to the committee. Where is it? I think it’s in my bag. But where’s my bag.

What’s the time? I can’t see my watch. I can’t see a friggin’ thing......friggin...that's a funny word... friggin!  I could actually swear properly in here couldn't I. No one would hear me. What the hell am I thinking? Get your act together, get your act together.

There’s a word for a place like this. Obelisk? No, erm.....it was in a pub quiz the other day. Oubliette. That’s it. Oubliette. Do they have steps? No of course they don’t or the oubliette would be pointless.

Why am I rambling on? Concentrate for Gods’ sake, Concentrate.

I wish I was religious. I’m sure if I was, the scriptures would have instructions on how to get out of here. Can you get temporary membership? I don’t know any prayers so I’ll improvise. 

There I go again. That’s stupid. What am I thinking? My mind is making me think stupid thoughts.

I’m tired. But I need to get going, or I’ll be late. I can’t be late, because they will be wondering where I am. They’ll wan’t to hear the result of the petition won't they?But I’m tired.
