This weeks nudge on Sunday Scribblings is Family.
.
‘Johnny, if you don’t get dressed right now you’ll be late for school again’.
Mum was going through her daily ritual of trying to get the family organised at the start of another day.
‘Charlotte, you’ve got your shoes on the wrong feet again, and why have you spilt orange juice down you clean blouse.’
‘Johnny, Johnny, are you still in bed? Johnny! If you don’t get a move on right now, I’m sending your father up. Do you hear me?’
‘Lauren –Lauren- LAUREN! Put that magazine down and eat your breakfast NOW!
Right. That’s it. Brian, get that lazy son of yours out of bed and dressed NOW. Brian – BRIAN! Don’t what dear? me. I’m fed up with talking to a newspaper! Go and get Johnny moving now’.
‘Lauren, will you please cheer up. I know life is hard. Believe it or not, I was a teenager once. It’s not something you and your friends have invented’
‘Johnny at last you are here. Have you washed your face? Come here. I’m sorry; if you can’t look after yourself then I‘ll wipe that dirty mark of your cheek. There's nothing wrong with a bit of spit. Stand still child!’
‘That’s okay Brian. You just toddle off to work and leave to it. Go to your cosy office and put your feet up. You have no idea what it’s like for me’
‘Kids, the bus is outside. KIDS! GO!’
Mum has despatched the family for another day. She pours a cup of coffee and settles down to a morning of watching parents shouting at their offspring on TV.

Wonderful, hilarious and so true !
ReplyDeletevery realistic portrayal... why does everything have to be so difficult... i am afraid i will never understand..... but then again..
ReplyDeleteHey you didn't tell me you were video taping my life lol. Thanks lol great post Keith love it.
ReplyDeletehaha A very funny and true glimpse into a typical families morning. Crazy Mom.. she should be off to get some therapy instead!
ReplyDeleteTypical start to the day. I particularly like that "A bit of spit won't hurt you." I remember my mother saying that. But when does Mama have time to sit down to watch television? Shopping for food, making the besd, doing the dishes, sweeping the floors, doing the laundry etc. etc. It makes for a humorous finale to her monologue, however.
ReplyDeleteNOt fair.....you've been peeking into my life?!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat smy typical morning !! Gosh!!! When written down it sure sounds amusing...just imagine how the others around me must be feeling...
great one , Keith
Well they do need a rest after all that shouting, poor dears :-)

ReplyDeleteI can picture that with my eyes closed. And she still has to learn more by watching TV? ;)
I knew the "spit wipe" was coming. ;) Hilarious!

ReplyDeleteAs a mother, I can really relate to this piece. Love the bit about the 'spit-wipe' my kids hate it when I do that!

Oh that was a riot! So true to life! If it had been me, I'd be adding something a little stronger to my coffee:)
ReplyDeleteToo true! (and very funny!) But sit down and watch TV? Who has time?
ReplyDeleteExcellent. Seems that is the same everywhere, except for the TV part.
